On February 2, 2008 City of Passaic firefighters received a verbal alarm around 11:20pm reporting a house fire at 162 Howe Ave. The fire was just 3 doors down from the Westside Fire Station and members could see it as they were getting on the apparatus. Heavy fire was showing from the first floor of the 2.5 story wood frame dwelling and rapidly extending to the second floor. Deputy Chief Martocci called for a second and third alarm on arrival. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and knocked down the heavy fire quickly. The fire took about 25 minutes to bring under control. 20 residents living in the building were left homeless from the fire. The fire was caused by candle. Photos By: Adam Alberti
