Mine Hill, NJ House Fire 18 William St. December 23, 2008 : Mine Hill, NJ firefighters responded to 18 William St. on a reported structure fire. Upon arrival heavy smoke was showing from a 1.5 story wood frame dwelling. The dwelling was vacant and for sale according to the sign in the front yard. Mutual aid was called immediately for the Wharton Fire Department to respond as well as a Rapid Intervention Team from the Dover Fire Department. The was under control within 1 hour. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. (Note: The temperature during the fire was 11 degrees) All photos by: Adam Alberti

Passaic, NJ 4th Alarm 177 Passaic St. December 16, 2008 : An early morning fire raced through a meat packing facility at 177 Passaic St. in Passaic, NJ. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke on arrival and were withdrawn from the building as the fire escalated. Heavy fire conditions took hold of the building and firefighters had to use defensive tactics. The building suffered a severe collapse and had to be raised. Roxbury, NJ Car Fire Route 80 East 12/15/2008 : Roxbury Township firefighters responded to a car fire on Route 80 Eastbound Milepost 32.1 around 8:00 A.M. uring the morning rush hour commute. Hackensack, NJ 2nd Alarm 356 Park St. 12/14/2008 : Around 7:45 A.M. Hackensack, NJ firefighters responded to Park St. and Berry St. on a house fire. Upon arrival firefighters had heavy fire showing from a large 2.5 story frame dwelling. A 2nd Alarm was transmitted and a off-duty firefighter recall was requested. The fire was controlled with an hour. All occupants of the home escaped without injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation. EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ *TANKER FIRE* NJTPK WESTERN SPUR 16W OFF RAMP 11/20/08 : On November 20, 2008 the East Rutherford, NJ Fire Department responded to an overturned gasoline tanker fully involved on the New Jersey Turnpike Western Spur Exit 16W Ramp. Upon arrival heavy fire and a large column were visible. The Passaic Fire Department UASI Foam Unit responded and an Airport Crash Truck from Newark Airport. The driver of the truck escaped the wreckage with serious burns and was driven to the hospital (prior to any emergency units arrival) by a passerby that was an EMT. Photos By: Lt. EAST ORANGE 3RD ALARM 219-223 SOUTH BURNETT 11/28/08 : At around 6:00 A.M. East Orange, NJ fire fighters responded to a fire at 219 South Burnett St. Upon arrival fire fighters found heavy fire showing from 219 and 223 South Burnett St. Both dwellings were 2.5 story frames. The fire escalated to 3 alarms. Both structure suffered heavy fire damage and collapse. (2) people were found DOA in 219 South Burnett St. The fire was under control around 8:30 A.M. Budd Lake Working Fire 11 Brock Lane. September 21, 2008 : Budd Lake, NJ fire fighters responded to a structure fire at 11 Brock Lane Unit H. The fire involved the 2nd and 3rd floors of a 3 story wood frame condo building. Mutual aid responded to assist from Washington Twp, Netcong, Stanhope, Hackettstown, and Flanders. Dover, NJ House Fire on Green Tree Lane August 21, 2008 : Dover, NJ fire fighters responded to Green Tree Lane on a report of smoke coming from a dwelling. Upon arrival first due units found heavy smoke showing and transmitted a general alarm for a working house fire. Fire fighters made an agressive interior attack and found the kitchen involved in fire. The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes. Mutual aid companies were cancelled while enroute due to the rapid knockdown. The occupants of the home were at work at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported at the scene. ROXBURY, NJ MVA W/CAR FIRE I-80 WB M.P. 28.3 AUGUST 14, 2008 : Just after midnight on August 14, 2008 Roxbury CO.# 2 and 3 fire and ems responded to Route 80 West Milepost 28.3 on an MVA w/Car Fire. Upon arrival I found a one car accident with the engine compartment well involved in fire. The vehicle was straddling the wall at the overpass for Route 46. The occupant of the vehicle escaped without injury. Roxbury Co. 2 fire fighters extinguished the fire and overhauled the vehicle. The vehicle was removed from the wall without incident. DOVER, NJ GENERAL ALARM 105 ANN ST. AUGUST 2, 2008 : On August 2, 2008 around 11:55 A.M. Dover, NJ fire fighters responded to a structure fire at 105 Ann St. Upon arrival heavy smoke was showing from a large 2.5 story wood frame victorian style dwelling. A general alarm was sounded and the Wharton fire department and Randolph fire department F.A.S.T. team was requested on mutual aid. The fire involved the A/B corner and soffit and was extending into the attic. Fire fighters made a quick knockdown and prevented the fire from spreading in the attic. The cause of the fire was possibly a lightening strike as a storm passed shortly before the fire. The Morris County Arson Squad and Dover Police Department are investigating the exact cause. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported at the scene. Photos By: Adam Alberti

Wharton, NJ House Fire 423 North Main St. July 29, 2008 : On July 29, 2008 Wharton, NJ fire fighters responded to a house fire at 423 North Main St. Upon arrival they found heavy smoke showing from a 2.5 story wood frame dwelling. Fire fighters confirmed a working fire in the attic of the dwelling. Mutual aid responded from Mine Hill and Picatinny Arsenal Fire Departments. The fire was knocked down and under control within about 20 minutes. No injuries were reported at the scene however the Wharton First Aid Squad and Mine Hill First Aid Squad were at the scene and provided rehab for fire fighters. This fire was the last job for the Wharton Snorkel. The Snorkel will be going to the Morris County Fire Fighters Training Academy. Photos By: Adam Alberti

Roxbury, NJ 94 Dell Ave May 2, 2008 Fully Involved Structure Fire : On Friday May 2nd, 2008 Roxbury Firefighters were called to 94 Dell Ave. for a fully involved structure fire. Upon arrival Chief 1 (A. Alberti) reported a 2.5 story woodframe vacant that was well involved in the rear. As the first Engine arrived heavy fire consumed most of the structure. As the first hoselines started working the structure suffered a severe collapse. The Morris County Tanker Task Force for Region 4 was requested bringing Tankers from Jefferson # 2, Mt. Arlington, Budd Lake, Chester, Ralston, and Rockaway # 3. Netcong, Wharton and Randolph fire departments also responded. The Randolph FD assisted in a 3000 foot LDH relay with Roxbury Engine 13. Wharton FD provided a draft site for tanker fill, and lighting at the scene. Netcong FD provided R.I.T. The fire took several hours to bring under control. The cause is currently under investigation. Roxbury, NJ 189 Emmans Road April 18, 2008 : Around midnight on April 18th Roxbury Firefighters responded to 189 Emmans Road on a reported shed fire. Upon arrival fireifghters found heavy fire showing from a 20x20 wood frame out building as well as a small shed. The extensive heat caused the vinyl siding to melt off of two dwellings and also caused damage to car parked in the driveway. All three Roxbury Fire Companies operated at the scene. Jefferson Township, NJ House Fire 67 Ripplewood Dr. April 10, 2008 : At approximately 0130 hrs Jefferson Township, NJ firefighters were called to respond to 67 Ripplewood Drive on a well involved house fire after Jefferson Police received numerous phone calls reporting the fire. Upon arrival firefighters found a 1 story ranch type dwelling well involved in fire. A deckgun and ladderpipe were placed in service immediately. Mutual aid Tankers were requested to respond from Mount Arlington, Roxbury, and Hopatcong as well as a Picatinny Arsenal for FAST. The fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes but firefighters remained on scene extinguishing hot spots and overhauling. The occupants of the home escaped without injury. South Orange, NJ 3rd Alarm 356 Redmond Road January 21, 2008 : On January 21, 2008 South Orange, NJ firefighters responded to 356 Redmond Road on a reported house fire with possible occupants trapped. Upon arrival firefighters found heavy smoke showing from the large 2.5 story wood frame dwelling. An aggresive interior attack was deployed and firefighters knocked the bulk on the fire down within 30 minutes. The searches proved negative and it was later confirmed that the occupants were not home at the time of the fire. A dog unfortunately perished in the blaze. Passaic, NJ 3rd Alarm 162 Howe Ave. February 2, 2008 : On February 2, 2008 City of Passaic firefighters received a verbal alarm around 11:20pm reporting a house fire at 162 Howe Ave. The fire was just 3 doors down from the Westside Fire Station and members could see it as they were getting on the apparatus. Heavy fire was showing from the first floor of the 2.5 story wood frame dwelling and rapidly extending to the second floor. Deputy Chief Martocci called for a second and third alarm on arrival. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and knocked down the heavy fire quickly. The fire took about 25 minutes to bring under control. 20 residents living in the building were left homeless from the fire. The fire was caused by candle. Photos By: Adam Alberti

Jefferson Twp, NJ House Fire 43 Mason St. February 3, 2008 : Jefferson Township Fire Companies 1 & 2 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 43 Mason St. just before 10 P.M. Upon arrival they found a 1.5 story wood frame dwelling with heavy fire showing. Firefighters attempted an interior attack but were forced to withdraw due to the heavy volume of fire that was rapidly spreading. Firefighters went to a defensive operation and used at least 4 handlines to knock down the fire. The fire took approximately one hour to bring under control. Mutual aid responded to the scene from Picatinny Arsenal for a rapid intervention team, and Roxbury, Mount Arlington, and Hopatcong responded with tankers. Two firefighters suffered injuries at the scene. One was transported to the hospital by the Jefferson Rescue Squad. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Photos By: Adam Alberti

Hopatcong, NJ 400 Lakeside Blvd January 22, 2008 : Hopatcong, NJ firefighters responded to the area of 400 Lakeside Blvd. at approximately 7:45 A.M. on a reported structure fire. Upon arrival they found a 2 story wood frame dwelling heavily involved in fire. The structure was several hundred feet off the main road. Fire apparatus were unable to access the driveway to the dwelling. Firefighter made long hose stretches to to the dwelling. Mutual aid was called to the scene from Roxbury, Byram, Jefferson Co. 2, and Andover Boro. Firefighting efforts were hampered by water problems, and cold temperatures and ice. The fire took about 1 hour to bring under control. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The occupants of the home escaped without injury.

Dover, NJ General Alarm at 15 North Sussex St. January 10, 2008 : On January 10, 2008 Dover, NJ firefighters responded to 15 North Sussex St. for a structure fire at the SU CASA COLUMBIA Restaurant. Upon arrival firefighters found fire showing in the area of the vent system. As firefighters opened up they found heavy fire running the attic space. Mutual aid was called to the scene from Rockaway Borough, Randolph, Wharton, and Picatinny Arsenal. Firefighters were forced to go to an exterior attack due to the heavy volume of fire with the structure. Heavy smoke spread through the downtown area .
